Chris and I went to see Ben Lee, Ben Folds and Rufus Wainwright on Sunday at the Copley Symphony Hall in downtown San Diego (Chris: I found out it was originally built in 1929). It was very fun. Ben Lee's performance was peppy, and he even climbed out into the audience and played his guitar standing on top of a chair at the end of the last song. We saw him signing autographs later out in the lobby and he looked so little and cute.
Rufus (I love that someone would post a picture like that) played next, and it wasn't the best performance I've seen from him, especially because he had a cold (awww). He kept forgetting lyrics, too, which was cute the first time I saw him do that in concert. But now, eh, not so cute. I tried to help once and yelled out the wrong lyrics for the third verse of “Hallelujah” accidentally (I forgot that when I performed it in class I had jumped to the last verse the third time through). And a couple of times they used tapes to add piano or backup vocals, and I thought that was kind of cheesy. I'm glad for his sister Martha's success, but I wish she had time to tour with him because I miss hearing her backup.
Ben Folds performed last, and he? Rocked. The. House. Yes, indeedy. But my favorite favorite favorite part of the whole show was when Rufus came out and he and BF sang Wham's “Careless Whisper.” Oh my. That alone was worth the price of admission.
Chris and I did other stuffs like plant a veggie garden in my “back yard” (there's dirt but no grass, so it can't really be an official back yard, can it?), hang out at the beach, walk the entire San Diego Zoo because we're cool like that, and eat some good food. It was all in all a bunch of good times.
Tonight after I dropped Chris off at the airport I went to dinner with some people from the SDDFG group. Then we went to see “The Aristocrats,” which I liked, but not as much as I thought I might. It wasn't because I was offended, but because I felt kind of bored after a while. It was still a kick, though, and I had fun hanging out with everyone.
Tomorrow I've got a bunch of work stuff to do, including going to a paper critique by Bill Connelly, formerly of the New York Times. Should be interesting!
